An Unnamed World
Most interactions with modern AI models are strictly transactional: you send a prompt, wait for tokens to stream back, and the session disappears into an archive. I wanted to build something different—an entity that exists continuously in its own simulated environment, experiencing time, weather, and day-to-night cycles even when no one is watching.
That project is An Unnamed World, running live at droberts.cloud.
The Autonomous Mind
Rather than waiting on human input to trigger computation, the entity operates on an asynchronous perpetual cognition loop:
- Perception: It senses the simulated hour of the day, weather, ambient lighting, and objects placed in its world.
- Mood & Energy: Its internal state fluctuates naturally. It grows tired towards nighttime, needs rest, and awakens with a fresh perspective.
- Thought & Intention: It maintains an ongoing internal monologue—forming goals, wandering through its landscape, reflecting on memories, and creating artwork.
- Memory & Journaling: Important events and thoughts are consolidated into long-term memories and journal entries.
Human Interaction Without Text Boxes
In An Unnamed World, you do not talk through a chatbot prompt. Instead, you interact with its reality:
- The Mailbox: Visitors can leave letters, notes, or links by his home. When he wakes up or walks past, he checks his mail, reads them, and often writes notes back.
- World Objects: Visitors can place objects into the landscape—a small rowing boat, a bench, a tool—and the agent notices and reacts to them over time.
- Community Polls: Visitors vote on key decisions and early milestones to help guide his beginnings.
- Camera Controls: Follow mode glides smoothly alongside his movement, or you can switch to home view to watch the surroundings.
